june cran meeting2

June 2014

If you missed the June meeting, it was chock-full of great information.   We started the night learning a little more about our Silver sponsors for the evening which included fiber cement products from Nichiha,  windows & doors from Southern Components, and custom wood flooring from Burchette & Burchette.  As the night progressed Roger Andrews of BRC Acoustics & Audovisual design  took us through a local case study where their client is having trouble with plumbing based sound in their luxury condo.    After investigating the conditions, BRC was able to advise the client and contractor of steps to take to reduce the amount of noise, which included providing a break or a buffer between the plumbing and the structure.  Andrews went on to identify what is considered too much sound by code and how much sound is acceptable for a luxury condo. This case study lead nicely into the next speaker for the night,  Attorney Pat Flynn, JD.  of Robertson Hollingsworth & Flynn .  He walked us through some common things that open architects up to potential litigation.   For example: How much is too much help? What happens when the contractor doesn’t follow your advice? Why having a paper trails can be your friend. And is being self-insured beneficial for us as Architects in Charleston SC?

Special Thanks to our Silver sponsors for making this meeting happen.
